NOW WITH BASIC AIs !

[EN]Live the rise and fall of the bronze age civilisations

Several millennia have passed since the beginnings of agriculture. The Fertile Crescent regions have gradually seen the emergence of new societies. For the first time, humans grow to groupes of thousands and eventually formed cities. Thus were born the first states and with them, trade, but also war.

Expand your power during the Bronze Age. Feed your people, build temples for your gods and tombs for your rulers. How high can you rise before your state fall ?

A dynamic and realistic technological system

Ideas appear according to specific triggers, state technologies can also be forgotten...

The World of the Fertile Crescent

A dynamic world where civilization will spread from Egypt and Sumer to the rest of Mesopotamia and the Levant.

The resource of the rulers: their population

An economic system based not on resource-producing buildings, but on populations that realistically evolve through years, wars, epidemics and periods of prosperity.

A game of civilization and survival

Your state must seem legitimate according to your culture. Let that legitimacy hit zero and you lose the game. Build temples, win wars and build monuments to raise it.

Fourteen startdates, from 3400BC to 1450BC

Unify the chiefdoms of Egypt, take sides in the war between Horus and Set, see the fall of the Old Kingdom or rule as the New Kingdom and conquer Nubia and the Levant.

Our objectives

In too many strategy games, the main objective is just to get bigger. But the consequences of this is to make strategy games a race for resources. The player will then find himself in two different situations. Either he has too great an advance on his rivals and has no real interest beyond this point to continue the game. Or an AI has been in a more advantageous situation and has become far too powerful to be caught up.
Our ideas are therefore the following: that the player does not have the same difficulties to fight according to the size of his faction; that the game is as interesting between playing a small faction and a large one; that the player is not constantly pushed to grow by conquest, but may prefer to keep its internal stability.

The game is still in Alpha, all constructive comments are welcome.

Great game

But I have some problems

-The tooltips go trough the UI

-Sometimes tooltips just become the tooltip for curruption

-Treasury is spelled "tresury" in the tooltip

-you could make the farms e.t.c. easier to access

-mabye give heirs different traits

(1 edit)

Thanks for the comment !
This is just a demo that goes back to already almost two years ago(in March). Since then I worked on the release version for the Early Access on Steam.

The first bug that you told has been corrected, for the one of corruption it only happen in the first 5 seconds of the game and don't come haunt after that. Tresury have been also corrected.
What do you mean by the farms easier to access ? Like a Macrobuilder system ? Its in preparation, but right now I'm correcting the last big bugs for release. The Macrobuilder should come in the 1st or 2nd monthly update after release(more likely the 1st)

As for the different traits for heirs, what do you mean ? Each characters grow up to have different personnalities with their 10 traits. So I don't understand what you ask exactly for ?

For everything that come to the release version, go to our Trello for all the new things(like a save system, better AI, more events and so on). The link is on the page, but here you go:

In the mean time, thanks for your support !

I mean making it easier to navigate the different screens.

Also why are some of the menus in portogese?

Great work.

About the heirs, I didn´t know that

I'm most definetly not portugese, so why have you texts in it X)

Well, I reworked each screens to be more easier to navigate. Of course it can always made better, but it is better than the demo. Or so I hope.

I like the game it seems alright though a personal take as a history buff is concerning Nubia, For example it isn't the focus and historically has always been considered to of been below that of Egypt barring a few times though I do have to ask, why is there a lack of a somewhat sizable Kerma (Or Kirmah) Kingdom even though we know of one ranging from 2500 BC to 1500Bc? Just a thought and opinion regardless other then that the game is good and interesting

(+1)

Hum, there is one. At least in my file for the release version, there is nubian factions beginning in 2650BC. As for a special faction in Nubia, there is one for the 1600 and 1450BC start dates. The first one being the kingdom who allied itself with the Hyksôs, and the ine in 1450BC being a united Nubia against Imperial Egypt.
I will work more in Nubia for the part of the game after 2000BC, cause I have gathered a bit of sources that I have not yet implemented into the game.

(+1)

Oh cool, a large issue is the lack of credible sources and vague information we get but regardless this sounds good

(1 edit) (+1)

Well, if you have sources or books on which I can work, I will be happy to use them to add even more historicity and events into the game ^^

And don't hesitate to join our Discord !

Why does it crash so much ?

I can't even get past the main menu

The Main Menu, you mean after the loading screen ? if it is, its very strange

(1 edit)

The money loss is happening again. Here a screenshot with date.

Very very strange, I will see what happens in the code about that and if its also a UI related problem

ok, good luck

(1 edit)

This game has alot of potential. Though i found a game breaking bug. Even though I am making about 1000 Income and my expenses are just about 150 I still lose money. The game isnt playable anymore. I hope this gets fixed.

Also when I restart the game with another state this happens:

Hum, very strange indeed, you shouldn't have access to dev mode like that. I will look why you lose money like that. Also, don't jesitate to join our Discord, it will be easier for you to give us feedback and for us to respond to you

Also, in your game  that was functionnal, you played until which date ?

I dont remember. Since I didnt save the game I cant look it up. I believe it was about 120 years into the game(from the first scenario).

Ill play again to see iff it happens again and if it happens when.

Some Nations are Unplayable, once started they are shown as having zero everything and once you press next turn the game freezes

Is it in the other dates than 3400BC ? It's a bug that we almost managed to correct for the release of the Early Access. So it will still be there when the demo will go on Steam(cause its the demo that is right now on itch.io), but it should be corrected for release

Game Resolution Randomly change and can't find how to change it back

Wait, that should't do that. Have you a huge screen that is not in 1920x1080 ?

No its only 1366x768

Well, I need then to add for release an option in-game to change the resolution

yay that would fix it

game wont load after choosing faction

Please, which date, and which faction did you choose ? So that this bug can be corrected for next update

1600BC, LOWER EGYPT

the game is stuck at the middle of loading after i pick a country

Just wait a bit, there is more time of loading between the beginning and the first half, and the first half and full load. If not, can you tell me which faction did you choose and at which start date please ? I will try to correct this for the update next week on the 1st of June ^^

i chose egypt

and on which start date ?

game wont load

It won't load after what ?

Hey, can you look into making it installable from the Itch client?

Wait, is that even possible ?
You only have to dezip it and use the .exe for it to run, right ?

The itch client is a standalone app that provides a lot of convinience for the user.

  • It provides (the possibility of) sandboxing apps, so they can’t steal passwords from my browser
  • It automatically makes installable windows apps available under Linux (and maybe mac?) via wine without extra effort for the user or developer
  • It provides a central place remove all the programms downloaded (you never forget some gigabyte big game in your download folder)
  • It provides a way for users to kill badly behaving programms without opening a task manager
  • Itch can collect crash logs that can help user and developer identify problems such as missing libraries (called *.dll on windows) which either a technically minded user can fix on their own or give detailed technical feedback to the developer
  • Itch can also automatically install dependencies (such as programming language run-times) for the user when they are needed
  • It does automatic updates of applications to the latest version in the background without user intervention
  • Only updates the changes of apps when the developer pushed it using butler tool

To do this the itch client needs some information. I never published on Itch but i suspect those two articles have the information you need. You are probably just missing an App manifests if that doesn’t cut it look into the Game developer quick start and profit from the benefits of using butler: Compatibility policy#Platinum tier

Hum, it seem very complicated. But it can also be a big bonus I suppose. I will see if can do something about it ^^

There is no good tutorial about this topic. So if someone figures it out and let’s me know i can give other devs more info on how to do it.

Awesome concept, full of promise ! 😉

(I follow since Kemet, hope to see this one on steam some days 😁)

Yeah ! Thanks Alan ^^
