After 2200BC, 1750BC will offer you the most possibilities as a startdate. The Middle Kingdom is collapsing, the 'rulers' of Egypt now only directly control Upper Egypt and part of Middle Egypt. And in the coming decades, this is likely to get worse.

There will be four factional narratives at that time: that of the heirs of the XIIth Dynasty and that of Upper Egypt of the XIIIth Dynasty that we will see today. And that of the heirs of Vizier Ioseph with that of the Canaanite princes of the eastern Delta,

In the north of Middle Egypt are two factions. Heirs of the XIIIth Dynasty, their objective will be to kill each other and then either to march on Uaset to take back the ancient capital. From there, they will be able to join Xois once their legitimacy is assured. Or they can first conquer Lower Egypt, including Xois, before going down to Uaset. Once this is done, and depending on the faction you start with, you will see your royal power boosted in a different way, either by a reinforced internal stability, or an improved offensive capacity with an increased morale for your troops.

Finally, the last faction is Upper Egypt. This will certainly be one of the most difficult factions to play. The XIIIth Dynasty is quite special, as their system of succession is between brothers rather than from father to son. This causes their kingdom to change rulers rapidly, weakening them further and making the chances of a regency minimal. You will have to push north and secure enough Maat to have any hope of reforming this kingdom. But if you push your expansion despite the sword of Damocles over your head, you will eventually reunify Egypt.
