If today we are affected by a drastic climate change that we have caused, many previous civilizations have fallen due to climate changes. Droughts, destructive rains, dry rivers or torrential floods, the ancients were affected by these disasters as much as we are. Mother Nature has not been angry with us for only a century or two.

In R&F:BA, four major climatic events will occur during the 2200 years of the game.

Between 2975BC and 2925 BC, if you play an early start date, and in the narrative at 2955 BC for the 2950 BC start date, a huge flood will occur in Mesopotamia. Almost all the farms will be destroyed, greatly weakening the population of Upper but especially Lower Mesopotamia, especially in the land of Sumer. Yes, a Flood will fall on Mesopotamia.

Between 2225 BC and 2175 BC, the so-called kiloyear event 4.2 (because it was 4200 years ago) will begin in 2195 BC with the date of 2200 BC. This will quickly cause a huge drought, reducing the flow of rivers throughout the Near East. More importantly, it will last for several decades, with the drought increasing very rapidly in the first decade, then stagnating for several years, before decreasing over several decades. Few empires will survive this, resetting the power gap between the various factions to zero.

As we saw a few diaries ago, between 1625BC and 1600BC, which is the historical range given by archaeologists, the volcano under the island of Thera exploded. This caused a tsunami that razed the surrounding islands, including the northern coast of Crete. In-game this will result in an end to the trade events with the Minoans, but it will also cause the Plagues to be reported in Egypt.

Finally, there will be the end of time, or at least the end of the Bronze Age. This will result in several flights of events. First, a drought will begin between 1225BC and 1175BC. Then, a few years after the beginning of this period, a 'storm of earthquakes' will occur, killing a small portion of the population around the Eastern Mediterranean, and reducing fortifications, cities and port facilities in those affected areas. And then comes the final act, the invasion of the Sea Peoples. The coastal territories will be attacked by hordes of Pelesets, Shekeleshs, Shardanes and others who will launch the conquest of some coastal territories, and loot the territories surrounding them.

If you manage to survive these events, you can consider yourself lucky, or very clever.

Next week will see an evolution of the development diaries. Indeed, we have so far seen the content that will be present at the upcoming release of the game. It is now time to present what will come next, with the various major updates that will be as many steps leading to the completion of the game. We'll be back next week with a diary covering Lower Mesopotamia up to Sargon of Akkad.
